Is it really that important to brand my business?

Is it really that important to brand my business?

Company branding has become an art.  Not only do you recognize companies by their products or services, you can identify them by their logos, commercials and theme songs.

How important is branding?  Well, branding can help you tell a story when you are not there to tell it.  It can boost sales!  It can secure your place in a very competitive market.  But branding alone won’t do all these things; you need to be sure you are backing it up with a quality product or service.

Let me give you an example.  Coca Cola, Nike, Google and Apple are all icons.  We recognize them everywhere we go.  Why is that?  Well, it all started with great services or products.  They built their foundations by offering something to the consumer that they either wanted or needed and then convinced them that they were the best.  After proving themselves to be the best, they then built a huge program around their brand.

As you begin to build your brand, consider the following:

  • Who are you
  • Who are your customers
  • What type of products or services do you offer
  • Are those services and products the best
  • What type of message do you want to tell
  • Is that message powerful and compelling
  • Will people want or need what you are selling

Branding does not have to mean spend lots of money.  It simply means package your company in a way that attracts customers so that you can be identified easily amongst the competition.  Wikipedia defines corporate branding as, the practice of using a company’s name as a product brand name. It is an attempt to leverage corporate brand equity to create product brand recognition.

It all starts with a vision, the implementation of that vision, the marketing and packaging of that vision and the popularity of the brand.

Remember, when you are branding your company think about all the components of your business and how they emulate the brand you are creating.  Do all the customer touch-points scream the message you are trying to portray for your brand?  Do your employees understand the brand?  Do they have the resources to deliver?  Does the product stand on its own?  Is the message simple?  And, is the product priced to be competitive yet profitable?

There are many successful companies who do branding very well, however, be sure to be unique in your attempts to create your own identity.  Being original will set you apart from the competition and entice consumers more than if you are the standard cookie cutter business…  To learn more about branding, check it out on the A Better You Coaching website.
